This Is Western Sporting Heaven
Flat Tops Wilderness, Routt National Forest and Colorado’s Best Elk Hunting
Ranch owners have endless outdoor recreation opportunities in every season of the year with immediate, direct access to some of the finest wilderness and recreation lands in the American West. The ranches are surrounded by the unspoiled grandeur of over a million acres of Rocky Mountain Alpine Wilderness amidst the lush forests, rivers, streams, lakes, wildlife and trail systems provided by the public lands of the Flattops Wilderness Area, Routt National Forest, and the nearby Colorado River. World’s away, but still just an hour from the world class skiing, recreation and amenities of Vail and Steamboat, the property offers owners some of the best hiking, horseback riding, hunting and fishing opportunities in Colorado, and a wide range of water sports, winter recreation and skiing opportunities within an hour’s drive. Chris, our on-site ranch manger, is also an excellent concierge and an owner’s resource for all of the local hiking, fishing, hunting, horseback riding and winter sports in the area.
“We love that we can ask Chris to organize a horseback trip for us and our guests so that when we arrive, all of our horses, tack, and trail guide needs are ready and waiting for our adventure.”

Hunting
Pristine Habitat, Abundant Wildlife and The Largest Elk Herd In The United States
The pristine, unpopulated Alpine ecosystem surrounding the Ranches at Five Pine Mesa provides excellent hunting and rich habitat for a wide variety of game. North America’s largest elk herd: The White River Elk Herd, is found here and takes up residence in the sprawling Flat Tops, migrating east directly through the ranch as they move to the lower elevations of the Yampa Valley during the fall hunting season. This herd provides excellent Elk hunting opportunities for owners and guests, both on and off the ranch, in the surrounding national forest and wilderness areas. It is not uncommon to see herds of several hundred elk congregate in the meadows. Trophy mule deer are also prolific on the property and adjoining National Forest lands. Other species in and around the ranches include black bear, mountain lion, and the occasional moose. Bow hunting is allowed on all properties and rifle hunting on selected properties. Private landowner hunting vouchers are available – and over the counter big game tags are also available to owners. Our ranch manager is very experienced in supporting hunters and can provide extra assistance as needed by hunters.

there are an abundance of excellent fishing guides, shops and float fishing outfitters in the area. The Colorado River runs just south of the ranch entrance and is easily accessible from the road for miles of floatable gold medal fly fishing. The Yampa River is also short drive and is considered a hidden gem amongst Colorado trout enthusiasts. The tailwater section of the Yampa below Stagecoach is one of the prized pieces of water in the region.
